Rue de Portugal
After more than 20 years of family life in this beautiful Brussels townhouse, Anne and Jacques felt the need for a fresh perspective and a few new ideas to refresh their main living space.
They needed a home office corner, storage for their countless books, and a space designed to fully enjoy the open fireplace next to the living room.
I therefore designed this custom oak and painted MDF bookcase to add a more vibrant touch. It looks as though it has always been there.
I reinterpreted the original moulding design of the house and replicated it on the bookcase as a subtle nod to the history of the place, giving the room a strong sense of character.
I also designed a built-in bench extending from the desk area, allowing space to store firewood while adding a few comfortable extra seats.
