Designing Spaces: The Office

Summer is coming to an end, many of you have already returned to work, and the idea of swapping your beach towel for your office chair doesn’t excite us much. Our work environment is extremely important—see my previous article on the influence of our work environment!

Here are a few tips to make your days at the office more enjoyable.

First: ventilate as much as possible. A well-ventilated space allows the brain to function properly and improves concentration.

Second: light. It is essential for your eyes and your overall well-being. Prioritize good natural lighting first, followed by ceiling lighting that adequately covers the room, and complement it with a task light directly on your desk.

Third: air-purifying plants. In addition to being pleasant to look at and creating a welcoming atmosphere, most plants help purify the air you breathe. Ivy, lavender, aloe vera, ficus, certain palm varieties…

A comfortable office chair is, of course, a priority to protect your back. You can also alternate with a yoga ball, for example, to vary your posture more regularly and stay active. Your desk should also be spacious enough for the tasks you need to perform: maintain a good distance from your screen, have enough space to rest your forearms, place a notebook, and spread out a few papers.

We should not forget about acoustic comfort either. Whether at home or in the office, it is important to have as much calm around you as possible. Acoustic panels that also serve as partitions can provide greater privacy and create separation between your spaces.

Personalize your desk and treat yourself. We spend most of our time sitting in this spot. Whether at work or at home, it is important that this space feels comfortable and helps you feel good every day. It is a place that should primarily promote calm and concentration. Avoid nostalgic photos; instead, choose décor with motivating and energizing messages to encourage you, and opt for natural materials.

Don’t forget to take breaks. Ideally, 5 minutes every hour, and longer breaks from time to time.
